Job Description

Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry to lead and manage the accounting operations of the company. The role requires deep knowledge of project-based accounting, cost control, and financial reporting specific to construction contracts and operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
2. Oversee project accounting functions, ensuring accurate job costing, revenue recognition, and expense allocation.
3. Monitor and control project budgets, cost reports, and financial performance.
4. Prepare financial statements in compliance with IFRS/GAAP on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
5. Ensure compliance with tax laws, VAT regulations, and statutory requirements.
6. Coordinate with project managers and procurement on financial aspects of projects.
7. Review subcontractor and supplier payments, retention, and advance recovery.
8. Maintain and reconcile bank accounts, cash flow forecasts, and working capital reports.
9. Manage internal and external audits, ensuring proper documentation and controls.
10. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning with the Finance Manager/CFO.
11. Implement and improve financial systems, processes, and reporting tools.

Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's Degree preferred).
2. Professional certifications like CPA, CMA, or CA are preferred.
3. Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in the construction industry.
4. Strong knowledge of project-based accounting, WIP, retentions, and revenue recognition for construction contracts.
5. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., ERP systems like Oracle, SAP, or construction-specific software).
6. Solid understanding of VAT, taxation, and regulatory compliance in the construction sector.
7. Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
