DSGD Class Teacher – Role Profile

Purpose of Role: The role ensures that all teaching staff at Durham School for Girls (DSGD) uphold the UK Teaching Standards (TS) and align practices with the school’s MARK values, policies, and Qatari MOE ethics. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality, engaging lessons, promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment, and fostering academic and personal development. Staff must maintain professional conduct, collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders, and contribute to the school community. The role also encompasses continuous professional development, adherence to school policies, and supporting student well-being and high-performance learning (HPL) strategies to create a positive, respectful learning environment for students and educators.

Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver engaging and effective lessons
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that aligns with subject standards and learning objectives (AOs).
  • Create and implement lessons and planning that cater to diverse learning needs using varied instructional strategies and resources.
  • Ensure curriculum planning and resources align with DSGD/MARK and Qatari values and culture.
  • Use appropriate technology and innovative tools to promote active, student-led learning.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and relevant stakeholders.
  • Continuously assess and evaluate student learning to inform differentiated instruction and teaching decisions.
  • Review and report any concerns with planning or resources that conflict with DSGD/Qatari values to the line manager (verbal and written) before leaving the school premises.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment
  • Establish clear behaviour expectations and a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Promote collaboration, respect, and inclusivity; value diverse perspectives.
  • Address individual student needs with appropriate support or accommodations.
  • Encourage student participation and critical thinking.
  • Promote a growth mindset and student ownership of learning.
  • Provide varied student-led learning opportunities and assessments.
  • Ensure curriculum links to real-life learning and careers.
  • Promote HPL, House, MARK, and Qatari values and culture.
  • Act on incidents with clear communication to stakeholders as per staff handbook and penalties.
Communication with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Maintain regular, clear communication with students and provide instructions and expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share resources, and exchange best practices.
  • Regularly communicate with parents (electronically and face-to-face) about student progress and concerns.
  • Provide concise progress reports to stakeholders and adhere to deadlines.
  • Use school portals and platforms (email, iSams, CPOMS) to share information and resources.
  • Complete tasks within timeframes and link with FE organizations when appropriate.
Support students’ well-being and personal development
  • Provide guidance for academic and personal growth.
  • Promote positive working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Address issues such as bullying, discrimination, and mental health with sensitivity.
  • Develop life skills (critical thinking, communication, problem-solving).
  • Provide opportunities for real-life learning and FE links.
  • Communicate stakeholder concerns clearly to DSGD staff and collaborate with the support services team as needed.
  • Implement directives from SLT, EDO, or Principal within stated timeframes.
Professional development and growth
  • Stay updated with subject knowledge, research, MOE changes, AO expectations, and best practices.
  • Participate in professional development to enhance teaching skills.
  • Reflect on practice and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Engage in Quality Assurance through self-assessment and peer observation.
  • Complete action points to support professional development and maintain satisfactory standards.

  • Model and promote DSGD/MARK and Qatari values in all interactions.

  • Regularly review and align the curriculum with MOE ethical guidelines, reflecting Qatar’s values and traditions.
  • Collaborate with SLT, HODs, and teachers to ensure planning and resources align with ethics and values.
  • Incorporate Qatari cultural and ethical values into the curriculum and use local examples.
  • Participate in professional development on MOE ethics and ensure lessons align with these values.
  • Seek feedback from students, parents, and community and adjust as needed with line managers.
  • Foster open dialogue about ethical issues and promote student-led learning and critical thinking within Qatari MOE ethics.
  • Regularly assess curriculum alignment with MOE ethics and adjust for continuous improvement.

DSGD Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and EDO reserve the right to request additional reasonable actions or responsibilities not listed above, as determined by the Head of Secondary or DSGD Principal.

Position Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from an accredited institution
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education
  • Degree subject on the MOE approved list
  • Requires teaching certification for Qatar MOEHE
  • Meets professional teacher education requirements
