Job summary

Avenga is seeking an experienced Lead Developer (Java/Angular) to join our data-driven web applications team. This role combines hands-on coding with technical leadership, architecture discussions and code reviews, all aimed at maintaining high engineering standards.

You will own backend services with Java, integrate Elasticsearch, and collaborate across disciplines while mentoring engineers. The role is fully remote in Poland, offering challenging projects and opportunities to shape scalable

• Several years of professional software development experience in a senior or tech-lead role.
• Strong backend Java and frontend Angular expertise.
• Recent production experience with Elasticsearch.

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Lead Developer with strong expertise in Java, Angular and Elasticsearch to join a team responsible for developing and maintaining business-critical web applications in a complex, data-driven environment.

This is a technical leadership role for someone who enjoys staying close to the code. You will combine hands-on software development with technical leadership, architecture discussions, code reviews and ensuring high engineering standards across the applications.

Role: Tech Lead (Java / Angular) Location: Poland - 100% REMOTE

You qualify if you have the following experience and skills:

• Several years of professional experience in software development, including experience in a senior or technical leadership role.
• Strong, hands-on expertise in Java and backend application development.
• Proven, recent experience working with Elasticsearch in a production environment.
• Good practical knowledge of Angular, including the ability to develop and confidently review frontend code.
• Strong experience with SQL and practical exposure to Snowflake.
• Experience working with multiple systems, APIs and application integrations.
• Good understanding of application architecture, distributed systems and software engineering best practices.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and version control.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Ability to balance hands-on development with technical leadership.
• Good command of English.

Key responsibilities of your role include:

• Take technical ownership of the development and evolution of modern, business-critical web applications.
• Design, develop and maintain backend services and application integrations using Java.
• Work hands-on with Elasticsearch in a production environment, including designing, implementing and reviewing search-related solutions.
• Contribute to frontend development using Angular and perform thorough code reviews to ensure quality and maintainability.
• Work with Snowflake, SQL and multiple data sources to support application functionality and data integration.
• Act as a key technical reviewer for Java and Elasticsearch solutions and support high-quality engineering practices across the team.
• Participate in architectural and technical decision-making at the application level.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, data teams, product stakeholders and other technical teams.
• Drive best practices around code quality, testing, security, performance and maintainability.
• Mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Identify technical risks and propose practical, scalable solutions.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and engineering standards.
