Hatch is seeking an experienced Systems Assurance and Safety Lead to join our global Systems Integration and Assurance practice in Poland.

Reporting to the Regional Lead, Systems Integration & Assurance, the successful candidate will lead systems assurance and safety activities for major international rail and metro programmes, initially supporting a large European automated metro programme.

The role will focus on establishing a practical and credible safety assurance approach for a complex, multidisciplinary railway involving rolling stock, signalling, power, communications, stations, tunnels, depots and operational systems. The successful candidate will work closely with systems engineering, requirements, interfaces, RAM, design and operational teams to ensure safety considerations are integrated into the emerging solution.

We are looking for an experienced rail assurance or safety professional who combines sound technical knowledge with strong coordination and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable leading safety activities, engaging with multidisciplinary teams and presenting complex assurance matters clearly to project stakeholders.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Lead systems assurance and safety activities for major rail and metro programmes.
  • Develop and implement proportionate safety assurance plans, processes and governance arrangements.
  • Support the development of safety certification strategies and the planned pathway to regulatory acceptance.
  • Lead or facilitate hazard identification and safety risk assessment workshops, including HAZID and HAZOP activities where appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain hazard management processes, including hazard logs, safety actions and risk closure arrangements.
  • Support the development of preliminary hazard analyses and other safety assessments appropriate to the project phase.
  • Identify and manage system-level safety requirements, working with the Requirements Manager to maintain traceability.
  • Coordinate safety inputs across rolling stock, signalling, power, communications, stations, tunnels, depots, civil works and operations.
  • Review emerging design information to confirm that safety principles and requirements are appropriately addressed.
  • Support the development of safety arguments, assurance reports and tender-stage safety documentation.
  • Coordinate assurance inputs from designers, contractors, systems suppliers, operators and other delivery partners.
  • Work closely with Systems Engineering, Interface Management, Requirements Management, RAM and Verification and Validation teams.
  • Identify safety risks associated with technical interfaces and multidisciplinary design decisions.
  • Support the definition of safety evidence and Verification and Validation requirements for future project stages.
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory stakeholders and independent assessors when required.
  • Support assurance reviews, audits and assessments of project teams, suppliers and technical deliverables.
  • Prepare clear technical reports, dashboards and presentations for project teams and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate assurance engineers.
  • Contribute to the continued development of Hatch’s Systems Integration and Assurance capability in Poland and across Europe.

You will bring to the role:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Systems Engineering, safety engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Typically, at least 8 years of relevant experience in systems assurance, system safety, RAMS or safety-critical engineering.
  • Experience delivering assurance or safety activities on rail, metro, transportation or other complex infrastructure programmes.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety assurance plans, safety certification strategies or safety management processes.
  • A good understanding of hazard identification, safety risk assessment and hazard management.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing hazard logs, preliminary hazard analyses, safety requirements or assurance documentation.
  • Knowledge of European rail assurance standards, particularly CENELEC EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering lifecycle processes, including ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 or equivalent frameworks.
  • Experience coordinating assurance activities across multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, suppliers or project packages.
  • A good understanding of how safety requirements are integrated into system architecture, requirements management, interface management and Verification and Validation.
  • Knowledge of railway systems such as signalling, rolling stock, traction power, communications, track, stations, tunnels, depots and fire-life-safety systems.
  • Experience with automated metro, CBTC or Grade of Automation 4 systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience supporting regulatory acceptance, independent safety assessment or railway safety certification would be advantageous.
  • Experience supporting major tenders, design-and-build, PPP, DBFM or DBFOM programmes would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with requirements and hazard management tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS Next, ComplyPro, Excel-based registers or equivalent platforms would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to communicate complex safety and assurance matters clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Polish language capability would be advantageous.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively within international and geographically distributed teams.
  • Willingness to undertake occasional travel within Poland and across Europe when required.
