Job summary

Soter Analytics in Kraków is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer with a Tech Lead profile to own major backend components, architect scalable services, and drive technical direction in a small, autonomous team. This hands-on role requires strong Python, microservices, cloud experience (AWS/GCP), and a passion for observable, reliable systems.

You’ll mentor engineers, shape architecture, and collaborate with product managers to translate requirements into robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Proven backend development experience with Python.
• Strong microservices and event-driven system background.
• Extensive cloud SaaS experience (AWS/GCP).
• Deep understanding of clean architecture and SOLID design.
• Experience with containers (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD.
• IaC experience with Terraform/Ansible.
• Solid APIs and SQL design fundamentals.
• Ability to work autonomously and lead engineers.
• Product-focused with capability to translate requirements into solutions.
• Daily use of AI development tools; strong English communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical architecture and engineering leadership for backend systems and services.
• Identify risks and drive improvements in performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Lead refactoring efforts to improve long-term health of the platform.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices.
• Own backend services end-to-end — schema, API, deploy, on-call.
• Introduce testing frameworks and enforce code quality standards.
• Establish observability practices and monitor system reliability.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Evaluate security vulnerabilities and guide security best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate business needs into technical solutions.
