Qualifications

• Proven impact across multiple teams or major product domain.
• Deep ownership of distributed backend systems at scale.
• Strong judgement on service boundaries, async communications, data ownership, and failure modes.
• Deep knowledge of relational databases, transactions, concurrency, and high-performance design.
• Track record of improving reliability, scalability, observability or developer effectiveness with durable mechanisms.

Responsibilities

• Own high-consequence backend problems spanning services or product domains.
• Set system boundaries and architectural direction without central control.
• Lead technical decisions with explicit constraints and trade-offs.
• Improve performance, resilience, data integrity, operability and failure handling.
• Address recurring structural problems, not just symptoms.
• Remain hands-on when implementation or prototyping clarifies concepts.
• Mentor senior engineers and improve code review quality.
• Partner with engineering and product leaders on sequencing and long-term tech investments.
