Job summary

Akamai's Server Team is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, test and deploy highly scalable software as part of our cloud platform. You will work across frontend and backend domains, integrate applications with platform services, and participate in the full software lifecycle on DPUs/SmartNICs.

You should have strong networking fundamentals, solid experience with Python/Go/Rust, JavaScript with React, and familiarity with Jenkins and Docker.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Routing).
• Proficient in Python, Go, and/or Rust.
• Proficient in frontend tech like JavaScript with React.
• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Docker).
• Knowledge of firmware update processes, bootloaders, and hardware–software interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy highly scalable and secure software.
• Integrate applications with platform services and downstream systems in the cloud ecosystem.
• Identify, document, and track software defects using Jira (or similar), coordinating with developers for resolution.
• Configure and maintain network lab environments and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing.
• Handle estimation, commitments, and the Jira ticket system daily.

Akamai's Infrastructure Engineering & Operations organization builds and maintains Akamai's Platform - one of the world's largest distributed platforms. Our Server Hardware Engineering team is responsible for designing, qualifying, and testing servers destined for our growing network.

You will join the team responsible for integrating DPUs into our infrastructure, which is part of the larger Hardware Engineering organization that designs, qualifies, and scales our server platforms. You will participate in the full software development lifecycle using a modern tech stack, working across frontend and backend software domains. You will collaborate with experienced engineers globally to build reliable, maintainable, and high-quality software. This role offers the opportunity to tackle meaningful engineering challenges that affect one of the largest networks on the globe.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Designing, developing, testing and deploying highly scalable and secure software.

• Configuring and maintaining network lab environments and CI/CD pipelines for automated testings.

• Demonstrate a solid background in Python, Go, and/or Rust.
• Possess knowledge of frontend technologies like JavaScript with React.
• Have experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools like Jenkins and Docker.
• Understand firmware update processes, bootloaders, and hardware-software interfaces to ensure seamless integration and functionality
• Have prior experience developing applications on or with data center SmartNICs or DPUs (nice to have)
• Communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written.
