Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer to help build the next generation of cloud server architecture.

You will work on bringing DPUs into our infrastructure, collaborating across frontend and backend domains, and shaping highly scalable software for a global network. You will participate in the full software lifecycle, from design to deployment, while contributing to CI/CD pipelines, lab environments, and cross‑functional efforts with engineers worldwide.

Qualifications

• Solid grounding in networking fundamentals and cloud data plane concepts.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Rust for backend and system tooling.
• Experience with frontend tech such as JavaScript/React is a plus.
• DevOps practices and CI/CD tooling including Jenkins and Docker.
• Knowledge of firmware update processes and hardware interfaces is a bonus.
• Experience with DPUs or SmartNICs in data center environments is desirable.
• Strong ability to communicate clearly in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy scalable and secure software.

• Identify, document and track defects using Jira, coordinating with developers.
• Configure and maintain network labs and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing.
• Manage estimation, commitments and Jira tickets daily.

Akamai's Infrastructure Engineering & Operations organization builds and maintains Akamai's Platform - one of the world's largest distributed platforms. Our Server Hardware Engineering team is responsible for designing, qualifying, and testing servers destined for our growing network.

You will join the team responsible for integrating DPUs into our infrastructure, which is part of the larger Hardware Engineering organization that designs, qualifies, and scales our server platforms. You will participate in the full software development lifecycle using a modern tech stack, working across frontend and backend software domains. You will collaborate with experienced engineers globally to build reliable, maintainable, and high‑quality software. This role offers the opportunity to tackle meaningful engineering challenges that affect one of the largest networks on the globe.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Designing, developing, testing and deploying highly scalable and secure software.
• Integrating applications with platform services and downstream systems across the cloud ecosystem
• Identifying, document, and track software defects using Jira (or similar tools), working closely with developers to ensure timely resolution
• Configuring and maintaining network lab environments and CI/CD pipelines for automated testings.
• Handling estimation, commitments, and the Jira ticket system on a daily basis

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Routing).
• Demonstrate a solid background in Python, Go, and/or Rust.
• Possess knowledge of frontend technologies like JavaScript with React.
• Have experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools like Jenkins and Docker.
• Understand firmware update processes, bootloaders, and hardware-software interfaces to ensure seamless integration and functionality
• Have prior experience developing applications on or with data center SmartNICs or DPUs (nice to have).
• Communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written.
