Job Overview
Group Technology is a key part of Nordea’s transformation, delivering holistic technological solutions and driving the Customer Vision and Business Strategy. This depth role focuses on Snowflake, setting transformation patterns, performance standards, governance, and platform decisions.
Main Responsibilities
- Set technical standards for Snowflake transformations – choosing Dynamic Tables, Tasks, stored procedures, or Snowpark and defining trade‑offs
- Deep dive into data to develop technical solutions aligned with business requirements
- Contribute to and review requirement analysis, bridging domain knowledge and technical implementation
- Conduct performance work: query profiling, micro‑partition analysis, clustering design, warehouse rightsizing, spill elimination
- Own data modeling decisions – schema design, partitioning strategy, incremental patterns, SCD approaches
- Lead governance: RBAC hierarchy, database roles, masking policies, row access policies, tag‑based governance
- Design and evolve data sharing architecture (Secure Views, Reader Accounts, cross‑account sharing)
- Drive and own CI/CD standards for Snowflake using schemachange, Terraform, or equivalents integrated with Bitbucket/Jenkins
- Mentor mid‑level engineers, run design reviews, and facilitate knowledge sessions
- Partner with the team lead on PI planning, roadmap, and technical decisions
Must Have
- 10+ years in data engineering, with at least 3 years in Snowflake at production scale
- Deep understanding of data analysis, design, and leading technical solutions
- SnowPro Core certified; SnowPro Advanced Data Engineer strongly preferred
- Advanced SQL mastery – query plan interpretation, QUALIFY, MATCH_RECOGNIZE, recursive CTEs, VARIANT/OBJECT/ARRAY handling, window functions, lateral joins
- Proficiency in Snowpark (Python or Scala) and knowledge of when to use it versus SQL
- Strong grasp of Snowflake internals: micro‑partitions, clustering, pruning, result caching, warehouse credit consumption
- Experience with Dynamic Tables, Streams, Tasks in production and clear articulation of appropriate use cases
- Hands‑on governance: RBAC, database roles, masking policies, row access policies
- Data sharing expertise: Secure Data Sharing, Reader Accounts, cross‑region/cloud replication
- Ownership of CI/CD for Snowflake – schemachange, Terraform, or equivalent
- Financial services knowledge (credit risk, finance, or regulatory reporting) that informs architectural decisions
Nice to Have
- Credit risk functional knowledge
- Experience with Airflow in a Snowflake‑centric environment
- Legacy interop with DataStage
- Knowledge of Snowflake Cortex and Snowpipe Streaming
Mindset
- Comfortable across the full delivery lifecycle – analysis, architecture, development, CI/CD, deployment
- Treats the platform as a product, balancing reliability, cost, and developer experience
- Documents decisions – architecture records, naming conventions, runbooks
Working with AI
- Uses AI tooling confidently and leads the team on effective usage
- Understands context engineering and maintains repo‑level files that enable quality AI output
- Tracks AI tooling developments and offers informed opinions on adoption
- Recognises architectural flaws in AI‑generated code and explains corrective actions
