Job summary

Nortal in Krakow, Poland, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in WordPress to join our long-term, full-time service center. You will work on News UK projects, collaborating with journalists and product teams to deliver scalable editorial tools and websites.

The role focuses on PHP/WordPress with JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Gutenberg, plus modern dev tooling, testing and cloud workflows. You’ll mentor peers and contribute to a robust engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of PHP and WordPress best practices.
• Hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Gutenberg.
• Experience writing automated tests with PHPUnit and Jest.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with AWS and modern dev tooling (CI/CD, containers).
• Experience leading and mentoring developers.

Responsibilities

• Shape future architecture and systems by collaborating with Principal Engineers.
• Work across PHP/WordPress and JavaScript/TypeScript stacks.
• Build tools to streamline newsroom workflows.
• Maintain performance, security and reliability standards.
• Mentor teammates and drive continuous improvement.
