Job summary

Box Poland, a leader in Intelligent Content Management, seeks a skilled backend engineer to drive data platform services. You will own asynchronous data services, improve reliability and scalability, and help shape the Data Foundations platform.

You will collaborate with Core Data teams to meet data requirements and ensure robust data synchronization across systems. This is an opportunity to work on large-scale data infrastructure within a global AI-driven company, contributing to architecture

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of Software Development experience with distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Java or Scala and production backend services.
• Experience with asynchronous systems, data processing or event-driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of data consistency and reliability across distributed systems and data stores.
• Ownership of production services including troubleshooting and observability.
• Fluent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve asynchronous data services that support data synchronization across Box’s systems and data stores.
• Take ownership of existing services and help improve their reliability, scalability, observability, and overall architecture.
• Design and implement new services and improvements to support growing data volumes and evolving platform requirements.
• Help ensure data remains consistent and reliable across different data stores and downstream systems.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and consolidate existing services and improve the overall data platform.
• Collaborate with engineers and teams across Core Data and Box to understand data requirements, dependencies, and technical challenges.
• Participate in the operation and continuous improvement of production services, including troubleshooting and addressing reliability or performance issues.
• Contribute to the technical direction of the Data Foundations platform as the new team and its ownership evolve.
• Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

Who you are:

• Strong backend engineer with 5+ years of Software Development experience, ideally working with distributed systems and data-intensive applications.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Java or Scala and experience building production backend services.
• Experience designing, building, and deploying highly available, scalable, and reliable distributed systems.
• Experience working with asynchronous systems, data processing, messaging, or event-driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of data consistency, synchronization, and reliability across distributed systems and data stores.
• Experience taking ownership of production services, including troubleshooting, performance improvements, observability, and reliability.
• Comfortable working with existing systems and identifying opportunities to simplify, consolidate, and improve architecture.
• You have a passion for solving complex technical problems and building large-scale data infrastructure.
• You act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in your team interactions.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• You speak English proficiently.
