Job summary

Box, a leader in Intelligent Content Management, is seeking engineers to join the Data Foundations team. You will own asynchronous data services, improve reliability, scalability, and observability, and help shape a foundational data platform across Box's infrastructure.

We are an AI-first company; candidates should have 3+ years of software development, familiarity with Scala/Java, MySQL, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery, and a degree in CS or related field.

Why Box needs you:

You will join a newly formed Data Foundations team within Core Data, responsible for building, operating, and evolving the asynchronous data services that support Box’s data infrastructure. The team helps ensure that data remains reliable, consistent, and synchronized across different systems and data stores, supporting a wide range of services and internal teams across Box.
The team will take ownership of a number of existing services and work on improving their reliability, observability, scalability, and overall architecture. This is an opportunity to work on foundational, large-scale data infrastructure and help shape the evolution of a new team and its platform.

What you'll do:

• Own and evolve asynchronous data services that support data synchronization across Box’s systems and data stores.
• Take ownership of existing services and help improve their reliability, scalability, observability, and overall architecture.
• Design and implement new services and improvements to support growing data volumes and evolving platform requirements.
• Help ensure data remains consistent and reliable across different data stores and downstream systems.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and consolidate existing services and improve the overall data platform.
• Collaborate with engineers and teams across Core Data and Box to understand data requirements, dependencies, and technical challenges.
• Participate in the operation and continuous improvement of production services, including troubleshooting and addressing reliability or performance issues.
• Contribute to the technical direction of the Data Foundations platform as the new team and its ownership evolve.
• Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

• Familiarity with Scala/Java, MySQL, Pub/Sub, BigQuery
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures and code design principles
• Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems
• Passionate about database scale and performance challenges
• Strong sense of ownership, persistence and drive, strong communication
