Job summary

Akamai's Site Reliability Engineering team within the Virtualization & Host Platforms (SEQ) group seeks a Senior SRE to help design, build, and operate Linux-based compute host infrastructure powering Akamai's cloud services. You will automate processes, improve observability, and collaborate across support, operations and engineering while contributing to on-call rotations and incident response.

Qualifications

• Advanced level experience in Linux internals, system administration, and a deep understanding of underlying hardware.
• Advanced level experience with the Linux kernel and OS and an understanding of virtualization technologies (KVM/QEMU).
• Advanced level experience with designing, developing, and deploying software and infrastructure at scale
• Skills identifying whether hardware-test failures originate from firmware, BIOS/UEFI configuration, device firmware, kernel/driver behavior, or the physical test environment
• Skills using Python and shell scripting to independently implement solutions,
• Advanced level experience in a Development or SRE role, preferably working with large scale distributed systems.
• Experience with tools like SaltStack, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for managing infrastructure at scale
• Great communication and collaborative skills.
• Relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer in the Virtualization & Host Platforms (VHP) - Server Enablement & Qualification (SEQ) team, you will be at the forefront of Akamai Cloud compute host and server technologies. VHP is responsible for all Linux platforms from the hardware to the host and guest platforms, and SEQ in particular works closely with next‑generation HW teams to enable new hardware via our network bootstrapping service, provide seamless firmware upgrade models, and work with other VHP teams to provide a cohesive and performant solution to our internal infrastructure customers and operators to ensure all servers succeed in our datacenters.

You will have opportunities to write software automating our processes, help diagnose and resolve challenging production issues, advance initiatives to improve resource utilization and customer experience, and learn from a highly skilled engineering team. This position will require creative thinking combined with deep domain expertise in the areas of Linux systems engineering, performance tuning, hardware interfaces, systems administration, and configuration management.
