Your next stop:
We are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with a quality-first mindset and a passion for building reliable testing solutions at scale. In this role, you will take ownership of test automation strategy within your area, design and evolve automation frameworks, and help teams deliver high-quality products through effective quality engineering practices. Working closely with developers, product managers, and fellow QA engineers, you will influence technical decisions, drive continuous improvements, and mentor others while ensuring quality remains an integral part of the software development lifecycle.
Senior QA Automation Engineer
Region: pomorskie
What lies ahead on your journey:
Strategy and test design
- Roll out the team's test automation strategy in your area, with a focus on E2E tests, balancing product risk, coverage, execution time, and maintenance cost.
- Design, implement, and maintain automated tests across the appropriate levels of the testing pyramid.
- Define the appropriate balance between automated and manual testing in your area, including decisions about what not to automate.
- Perform exploratory, smoke, and project-related manual testing when needed, alongside automation.
- Analyze requirements, architecture, and product risks to identify testability issues and coverage gaps early in the SDLC.
- Set and track automation quality goals for your area (for example, flakiness rate, execution time, coverage of critical user flows), in line with the overall test strategy.
Framework and tooling
- Own architecture decisions for the E2E test framework in your area and contribute to the shared framework, ensuring scalability, maintainability, reliability, and alignment with engineering standards.
- Develop automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript, while remaining able to evaluate and adopt other tools when justified by the product’s needs.
- Write API tests and API-based steps in E2E tests (for example, chained requests to prepare test data and application state), following good practices of API test design.
CI/CD, reliability and test data
- Design and own automated quality gates for E2E tests in CI/CD pipelines in your area, including parallel execution, reporting, execution performance, and pipeline reliability.
- Integrate test reporting tools (for example, Report Portal and Allure) into the test framework and CI/CD pipelines, following the agreed setup, and work with DevOps when pipeline or environment changes are needed.
- Proactively identify and eliminate flaky tests and pipeline failures, focusing on root-cause analysis and long-term prevention.
- Define scalable test data management for E2E tests in your area, including test data setup, isolation, cleanup, and synthetic data generation, and keep test data secure and compliant (for example, no real customer personal data in tests, safe handling of credentials and tokens).
Code quality and documentation
- Conduct automation code reviews, establish coding and review standards, and ensure the long-term maintainability of the test suite.
- Own and maintain technical documentation for automation frameworks, quality gates, test execution, and troubleshooting.
Collaboration and team growth
- Work closely with developers, product managers, designers, and other QA engineers to define acceptance criteria and improve product testability.
- Mentor less experienced QA Automation Engineers, help others resolve complex technical problems, and contribute to recruitment interviews when required.
- Propose and implement improvements to automation tooling, engineering practices, and quality processes in your area, and share what works with the wider QA team.
What to pack in your suitcase:
Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance and test automation, with demonstrated ownership of complex automation solutions.
- Proven experience designing or significantly improving a test automation framework.
- Deep expertise in at least one area, such as framework architecture and design patterns, CI/CD integration, test data management, API testing, or debugging and flaky test prevention. We don't expect you to be equally strong in every area listed here.
- Experience mentoring or technically supporting other QA or automation engineers.
Technical skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright.
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, including the ability to design maintainable automation architecture and apply appropriate design patterns.
- Strong hands-on experience with testing RESTful APIs: chaining requests, handling authentication, validating responses and schemas, and structuring API test code so it stays maintainable.
- Experience designing automated quality gates and integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines (we use GitLab CI; experience with other CI tools is fine).
- Practical experience diagnosing and preventing flaky tests, test-environment issues, and pipeline failures.
- Experience with test data management and reliable test-environment setup.
- Experience conducting automation code reviews and improving code quality standards.
- Everyday use of AI-assisted tools in development and testing, with the ability to spot subtle problems in AI-generated code and plans (wrong abstractions, missed edge cases) and keep code quality high.
- Experience building test suites with reliability in mind from the start: telemetry, retry logic, and reporting that make failures easy to diagnose.
Testing knowledge
- Strong understanding of testing principles, including choosing the right test layer for a scenario (unit, integration, E2E) based on cost and value, risk-based testing, exploratory testing, regression testing, and coverage analysis.
- Hands-on experience with exploratory and manual testing, not only automation.
Ways of working
- Ability to make sound technical decisions in ambiguous situations and clearly explain the reasoning behind them.
- Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, Product, Design, and other stakeholders.
- Strong ownership mindset and the ability to drive initiatives from problem identification through implementation and measurable improvement.
- Being honest about progress, blockers, and what you don't know; disagreeing constructively and committing once a decision is made; taking feedback seriously, including in code review.
- Interest in the product and its users, and the ability to explain quality issues in business terms (for example, impact on customers or bookings).
Your extra baggage of experience:
- Experience with Go-based backend services and troubleshooting distributed applications.
- Experience building or maintaining automation for backend-heavy systems.
- Experience with contract testing.
- Experience with performance, reliability, security, or accessibility testing.
- Knowledge of SEO/SEA and automated validation of SEO-related requirements.
- Experience influencing quality practices across multiple teams or products.
