Job summary

AstraZeneca plc in Warsaw is seeking a Senior Scientist - Bioinformatics Engineer to advance data platforms for high-throughput proteomics and AI-enabled workflows. You will design scalable pipelines, collaborate with QuBi scientists, and contribute to robust data infrastructure across HPC and cloud environments.

The role blends hands-on bioinformatics, workflow development and data engineering, requiring strong experience in Nextflow/Snakemake, containerization with Docker and proficiency in R

Qualifications

• Ph.D. (or Masters with 3 years experience) in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics and data analysis, with the ability to develop and apply reproducible analytical workflows for complex biological datasets.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), including VMs, storage, and networking.
• Experience developing reproducible computational workflows using Nextflow or Snakemake, with containerised Linux environments.
• Design scalable omics data models and apply FAIR data principles and data governance.
• Programming in R and/or Python, familiarity with software development best practices.
• Proficiency with Git/GitHub and collaborative software development.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain end-to-end pipelines for processing high-throughput proteomics data.
• Develop portable and versioned workflows using Nextflow or Snakemake.
• Containerise analytical environments with Docker and deploy across HPC and cloud.
• Build quality control, validation and provenance into workflows for reproducibility.
• Apply software engineering best practices including version control, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation and release management.
• Design workflows with interfaces and metadata to enable programmatic reuse, including AI-enabled workflows.
• Develop scalable data models and metadata connections to enable reuse and insights across studies.
