Job summary

payabl. is seeking a Senior Product Security Engineer to embed security across the software development lifecycle, from architecture to deployment, reporting to the Head of Information Security.

You will build the practice, not inherit it, and introduce security gates into engineering workflows with AI-assisted tooling to maintain velocity. You will lead threat modelling and define secure-by-default patterns for authentication, API design, and service trust.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Product Security, Application Security in payments/fintech or similar fintech product environment.
• Hands-on experience embedding security into the software development lifecycle.
• You read code comfortably and participate in design discussions with senior engineers.
• Proven experience with threat modelling, secure-by-design reviews, and architecture/delivery collaboration.
• Hands-on experience with application security tooling such as SAST, SCA, secrets detection, and DAST.
• Hands-on experience securing cloud-native applications on AWS or other major cloud.
• Strong AI proficiency and hands-on experience (agentic workflows and loops, RAG, MCP).
• Solid understanding of Cloud-first environment and modern development practices.
• Experience securing CI/CD pipelines and software supply-chain security.
• Ability to influence secure delivery directly with engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and introduce security gates into the development lifecycle and embed secure release practices.
• Lead threat modelling for new products and major changes.
• Provide secure-by-design input for production builds across payments products.
• Define secure-by-default architecture patterns for authentication, authorization, API design, and service trust.
• Decide where traditional tooling is needed and where AI-assisted alternatives offer better coverage.
• Own CI/CD pipeline and software supply-chain security controls.
• Implement and improve container image scanning, dependency management, SBOMs, and IaC security checks.
• Build the AI-first practice with AI agents and LLM-assisted workflows for security delivery.
• Drive remediation of app-layer findings with engineering teams and security disclosures.
