Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to shape design and delivery of building services across Europe, including Amsterdam and Poland. You will lead mechanical systems, coordinate with stakeholders, and guide graduates and apprentices within multidisciplinary teams.

You will collaborate with international offices, apply sustainable design principles, and contribute to project execution from concept to construction.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Building/Mechanical) or related technical diploma.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in mechanical services design and delivery.
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals with familiarity of Dutch codes and planning phases.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical services (HVAC, drainage, water supply, firefighting, renewables and controls).
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders to set design ambitions and coordinate mechanics requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor junior team members and apprentices.
  • Participate in site visits, client meetings, design reviews and workshops.
  • Collaborate closely with Arup offices across Europe.

The Opportunity

The Building Services (MEP) team has been growing consistently in the last 3 years, working on iconic buildings in Europe, on a diverse range of projects including Stadia, Luxury Hotels, Offices, Commercial, Healthcare, Science and Industry and Educational projects. The role offers excellent prospects for career development and the opportunity to be involved in different and challenging range of design projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in our Building Services Engineering team, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. You’ll provide guidance to graduates and oversee the work and development of apprentices involved in your projects.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer At Arup, You Will
  • Lead the design and delivery of mechanical services (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, water supply, firefighting, renewable energy systems and controls) and manage key interfaces in multidisciplinary projects and teams.
  • Liaise with clients to assist in setting the design ambitions and with project stakeholders to develop the design and the coordination of the mechanical requirements and their impact on the project.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in site visits, client meetings, design reviews and project workshops, gaining valuable industry exposure.
  • Cooperate closely with our international offices.

  • Degree from an Engineering University (Building /Mechanical /Energy/ other relevant) or a relevant technical Diploma.
  • 8+ years of professional experience into the design and delivery of mechanical services.
  • Sound knowledge in mechanical engineering fundamentals including knowledge of Dutch codes and planning phases.
We Also Value
  • Ability to technically lead and manage the design process from conceptual layout to detailed design and construction.
  • Excellent knowledge of sustainability principles.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good knowledge of CAD and/or Building Information Modelling.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills with an eagerness to learn and apply new concepts.
  • Availability to travel within the region (Europe).
