About the role:
We're looking for a hands‑on Senior Software Engineer to help modernize and improve business‑critical banking applications.
This is not a purely architectural or management role. Around 70% of your work will involve hands‑on engineering: writing and debugging production code, improving automated tests, fixing security issues, modernizing legacy applications, and making releases safer and more reliable.
You'll work directly with development teams facing real engineering challenges — from vulnerable dependencies and outdated Java runtimes to unstable production systems, legacy middleware, weak test coverage, and slow or risky release processes.
What you’ll do
- Modernize Java and Spring‑based applications
- Write, debug, review, and improve production‑quality code
- Build and improve automated test suites and CI/CD quality gates
- Remediate security vulnerabilities and analyze dependency risks
- Upgrade Java, Spring, libraries, runtimes, and application platforms
- Improve production reliability, observability, and operational resilience
- Containerize applications and support deployments to OpenShift/Kubernetes
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, release automation, rollback, and production validation
- Work directly with client engineering teams and help them adopt sustainable engineering practices
- Take ownership from initial technical assessment through implementation, production deployment, stabilization, and handover
Must have:
- Strong hands‑on experience with Java and JVM‑based applications
- Strong experience with Spring and modern Java development
- Recent experience writing, debugging, and reviewing production code
- Strong understanding of automated testing, including unit and integration testing
- Experience with CI/CD and improving software delivery processes
- Experience with application modernization, security remediation, or production reliability
- Confidence working directly with engineers and technical stakeholders
- Strong communication skills in English
Nice to have:
- TypeScript, Node.js, and the npm ecosystem
- Docker, OpenShift, or Kubernetes
- Legacy application modernization, including IBM WebSphere or Oracle WebLogic
- Major‑version upgrades of Java, Spring, or Spring Boot
- Dependency management and security tools such as Renovate, Dependabot, or Software Composition Analysis tools
- Vulnerability remediation, CVE assessment, and dependency reachability analysis
- Liquibase or Flyway
- Ansible or other configuration‑management tools
- Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, ELK, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics
- Experience with high‑availability, active‑active, multi‑region, or disaster‑recovery architectures
- Experience with resilience testing and controlled failover exercises
- Experience using AI‑assisted development tools effectively and responsibly
