Job summary

SoftServe is seeking an Expert Java Developer with German language skills to modernize a smart meter data platform on the Transition Smart Energy Platform project for a German transmission operator. You will take over an existing solution and advance it through 2027, processing large energy data volumes reliably.

You will develop high-performance Java services, work with Kafka, Kubernetes, and Azure DevOps, and contribute to frontend work when needed.

Qualifications

8+ years of Java development experience.
8+ years with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
6+ years Docker and Kubernetes experience.
Kafka and/or Kafka Streams experience.
Recent hands-on project work in the last 3 years.
Analytical approach to incident analysis in production.
Clear, proactive communication in a distributed team.
Expert knowledge of Java and related technologies.
Knowledge of design patterns, CI/CD, and security practices.
Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
Experience with OpenShift and/or Azure.
Fluent German and English (C1) to work with client and document in both languages.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain high-performance Java services processing large volumes of data.
Modernize the inherited platform step by step for performance and resilience.
Collaborate with DevOps, architects, and client stakeholders to plan changes.
Analyze and resolve incidents to keep production reliable.
Build event-driven data flows with Kafka and Kafka Streams.
Operate and troubleshoot services on Kubernetes; monitor with Grafana and Splunk.
Maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for CI/CD.
Contribute to Angular frontend work when required.
