Job summary

Pythian is seeking a Senior Database Consultant to join a globally distributed team delivering database and application infrastructure support across clients. You will lead efforts in design, deployment, and maintenance of reliable data systems, focusing on uptime, recoverability, and performance.

Expect to work with tech stacks including Python, Django, AWS, Terraform, Docker, and GKE, while mentoring peers and shaping best practices.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in DBRE/SRE or production DBA role.
• Strong OOP with Python (or Go) and Django familiarity.
• Hands-on AWS cloud design, deployment, management.
• Automation/IaC: Terraform, Bash, Unix/Linux admin.
• Containerization/orchestration: Docker, GKE; secrets management Vulkan? Vault.
• Experience with DB tooling like ProxySQL and CI/CD via GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, analyze, design, implement, and manage database solutions and configurations.
• Assess customer infrastructure and suggest best practices for uptime and recoverability.
• Manage backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, and incident response.
• Oversee backup, clustering, replication, failover, and restoration activities; document actions.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to process improvements and training.
