Your Role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Walmart, you’ll work with some of the largest data sets in retail, designing and maintaining robust data pipelines that power advanced analytics and data science. You’ll collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, Engineers, and business stakeholders to transform raw data into valuable, governed assets that drive business decisions and shape the future of retail.

What You’ll Do
  • Data Strategy: Apply data strategy principles to solve business problems and support a single function.
  • Data Transformation & Integration: Build and optimize data pipelines, extract and transform data, and stay current with analytics trends.
  • Data Source Identification: Identify and prioritize data sources, perform quality checks, and ensure data is fit for purpose.
  • Data Modeling: Design and evaluate conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including data warehouses and marts. Define relational structures and optimize data flows.
  • Code Development & Testing: Develop, test, and deploy code using modern programming languages. Create proofs of concept, document solutions, and maintain playbooks.
  • Problem Solving: Translate business challenges into data-driven solutions, sharing use cases and best practices.
  • Business Acumen: Provide actionable recommendations, develop business cases, and align projects with strategic goals.
  • Data Governance: Implement and advocate for data governance practices, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Share expertise, support team development, and drive improvements to meet customer and business needs.
What You’ll Bring
  • 6+ years of experience in Data Engineering
  • Expertise in Spark (Scala), Hive, Kubernetes, API, and Data Lake concepts
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python)
  • Experience with cloud platforms like GCP or Azure
  • Experience in data modeling and data migration protocols
  • Experience with integration tools like Automic, Airflow
  • Experience with Kafka Connect, Druid, BigQuery, Looker
  • Experience with AI application development using agentic AI or LLM is a plus
  • Passion for code quality, system reliability, and performance
