Job summary

TOPPAN Digital Language is seeking a senior backend engineer to reduce operational complexity through pragmatic software design and automation. You will build lightweight microservices and internal tooling, embedding AI-enabled solutions across platforms to accelerate delivery and improve efficiency.

You will lead end-to-end technical design, collaborate with product and operations, and contribute to an innovation strategy across programmes while maintaining high quality and security standards.

Qualifications

• Senior Software Developer / Backend Engineer with 6+ years production experience.
• Backend development using JVM-based languages (Java, Groovy) and/or Python, with API-driven architectures.
• Proven experience designing, building, and operating microservices in production.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, containerised deployments, and running services on a public cloud platform.
• Solid experience with relational databases (SQL) and working knowledge of NoSQL technologies.
• Experience designing and maintaining clean, well-documented REST APIs and internal integrations.
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of solutions from definition to delivery and optimisation.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Ability to work effectively in distributed, cross-functional teams and communicate with non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead automation initiatives that reduce operational complexity across core business workflows.
• Shape technical solutions end-to-end from problem definition to delivery, deployment, and optimisation.
• Build and operate backend services, microservices, and internal tooling integrated with existing platforms.
• Translate ambiguous problems into scalable software in collaboration with product and operations teams.
• Contribute to innovation strategy by implementing automation and AI-enabled capabilities across programmes.
• Establish engineering standards including API design and service boundaries.
• Ensure solutions are observable, reliable, and measurable for continuous improvement.
• Mentor and review code, guiding team capability and delivery quality.
• Communicate complex technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Adapt scope and priorities to changing needs and support business objectives.
