Offer Description

The candidate for the position of Research Assistant/PhD Student in Research Team No. 3 – Fiber-Optic Light Sources in the MAB FENG project entitled “Centre of Excellence for Structured Fiber Optics and Applications” will prepare a doctoral dissertation in the extramural mode under the supervision of prof. Ryszard Buczyński.

The work will include participation in the following tasks:

• conducting research related to the project;
• development of experimental setups;
• designing and carrying out experiments;
• dissemination of research results through publications;
• preparation of technical reports on the work performed;
• cooperation with international partners.

Taking up employment involves undertaking the obligation to prepare a doctoral dissertation in a field consistent with the subject matter of the project, under the supervision of the Research Team Leader.

Skills/Qualifications

The candidate for the position of Research Assistant/PhD Student in the research staff group must meet the requirements resulting from the Statute of the University of Warsaw:

• hold a Master’s degree in physics, electronics, chemistry, materials engineering or a related field;
• the candidate may not hold a doctoral degree on the date of employment;
• have basic knowledge of research techniques in the field of photonics or related areas;
• have basic knowledge of techniques for modelling physical phenomena;
• have English language proficiency, both spoken and written, at a minimum level of B2;
• undertake to improve their qualifications to a level enabling them to obtain a doctoral degree.

The total professional involvement of project personnel in the implementation of all projects financed from EU funds (as well as activities financed from other sources, including the entity’s own funds and other entities), regardless of the form of engagement (employment contract, contract of mandate, contract for specific work, self-employment), may not exceed 276 hours per month.

Specific Requirements

• Knowledge of issues in the field of optics, photonics and related scientific disciplines;
• Knowledge of software used for conducting physical experiments, e.g. LabView;
• Ability to work in programming environments such as Comsol, Ansys Optics, Matlab, Python;
• Readiness to undertake research work of an experimental, technological and numerical nature. Experience in the above areas is welcome;
• Manual skills enabling the performance of experimental work;
• Ability to solve technical problems;
• Creativity and communication skills.

Additional Information

Full-time temporary employment for up to 36 months, but not later than 31.12.2029, Basic salary PLN 164 000 gross/gross per year, in accordance with regulations (includes 13th salary, may include seniority allowance).

Eligibility criteria

Each member of the selection committee evaluates each candidate by

awarding points in three categories:

1. Scientific achievements (40 points)

• Number and quality of scientific publications, including publications in journals indexed in the JCR, assessed in the context of the length of the candidate’s academic career;
• Participation in research projects, both national and international;
• Presentations at scientific and student conferences;
• Internships at research institutions and technology companies;
• Awards, scholarships and other distinctions received for scientific work and other educational achievements.

2. Research experience and competencies (40 points)

• Relevance of the candidate’s experience to the subject matter of the project;
• Knowledge of tools, methods and techniques relevant to the project.

3. Soft and organisational skills (20 points)

• Communication skills and ability to work in a team;
• Ability to independently plan and conduct research;
• Ability to present results, both orally and in writing.

A total of 100 points can be obtained. The candidate who meets the conditions for entering the competition and receives the highest number of points, not less than 60% of the total possible score, will win the competition.

2. CV containing a detailed description of qualifications and experience, confirming that the candidate meets the requirements and is able to perform the duties specified in this announcement;

3. Copies of documents confirming education, the course of studies completed to date, and qualifications;

4. List of publications and conference presentations, including a description of the candidate’s own contribution;

5. List of projects in which the candidate has participated, including a description of the candidate’s own contribution;

The application deadline is scheduled forOctober 15 , 2026 . Selected candidates may be invited to an interview with a committee appointed by the Faculty Dean. The interview process will likely take place online via GMeet, Zoom, etc. Candidates will be notified individually byOctober 30, 2026 . In the event of a withdrawal from the application, the position will be offered to the next candidate on the ranking list.
