Job description

Relocation to the United States — Norfolk, Virginia. We provide the NATO-5 visa.

A multinational defence organisation develops the communications and information systems that deploy with its forces. This is the programme management seat: keeping issues, risks and quality under control across a portfolio of interdependent projects.

What you would be doing
  • Handling issues and changes through the established processes and giving clear situational awareness on every one of them.
  • Capturing and logging every programme issue affecting the capability.
  • Sequencing activities and milestones, and keeping the plan honest.
  • Reviewing staff reports, management products and project specifications for clarity and content.
  • Running programme and project quality reviews and audits, using both qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Capturing operational lessons from exercises and live operations, and turning them into identified capability gaps.
  • Owning the programme risk log: identifying, estimating, evaluating and preparing responses.
  • Reconciling the reporting databases so project expenditure is represented accurately to the stakeholder group.
  • Communicating timely, analysed and well-presented information to the people it affects.
What you would bring
  • A university degree in project or programme management, engineering, computer science, telecommunications or a closely related field.
  • At least five years in project management of communications or information systems, using a recognised method such as MSP, PRINCE2 or PMI.
  • At least three years managing risks and issues in a complex, interdependent programme.
  • At least three years applying change management in a capability programme.
  • At least three years running programme and project quality reviews and audits.
  • At least three years in deployable communications or signals as a subject matter expert.
  • At least three years in an alliance or multinational military environment.
  • Fluent professional English.

This is a long engagement that renews year on year, not a short project.
