Postdoctoral Research Associate for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must maintain authorization throughout employment. This position is not eligible for sponsorship. This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.

Position Summary

The research will focus on advanced topics in quantum optics and quantum information, offering opportunities to contribute to innovative projects that push the field forward.

This is a one-year position, with the potential for renewal for a second year based on funding and performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct research in quantum optics and quantum information.
• Develop theoretical models to determine the appropriate BBO (Beta Barium Borate) crystal for generating entangled photons.
• Assist in the laboratory with setting up the optical systems required for the generation of entangled photons.
• Participate in related research projects involving the experimental generation and analysis of entangled photons.
• Guide and work with undergraduate students in the quantum optics lab.
• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Contribute to the development of experimental setups and theoretical models.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics or a related field.
• Basic competencies in working within an optics lab.
• Knowledge of how to align the optical setup and experience with devices like a He-Ne laser.
• Proven track record of research excellence, including publications.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, and technical procedures; deliver oral presentations; respond to questions from the Spelman community if necessary.
• Strong work ethics and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least three years of experience in research.
• Background in quantum optics and quantum computing; familiarity with Qiskit from IBM is a plus.
