# Postdoc (Assistant Professor) - Laboratory of Molecular NeurobiologyUniversity of Warsaw - Centre of New TechnologiesWarsaw, PolandPostdoctoralNeurobiologyMolecular BiologyDiabetesNo deadline given## About the positionPostdoc (Assistant Professor) - Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology University of Warsaw - Centre of New Technologies Warsaw, Poland PLN 10 500 per month gross Project description: Growing evidence suggests that mitochondrial dysfunction and impaired brain energy metabolism may play a role in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders, including autism spectrum disorder. Our research focuses on the transcription factor TCF7L2, best known for its role in regulating energy metabolism and its association with type 2 diabetes. Recently, mutations in the TCF7L2 gene have been identified as the cause of a rare neurodevelopmental disorder, whose symptoms often include features of autism spectrum disorder. Our previous studies show that TCF7L2 also regulates energy metabolism directly in the brain. Moreover, its deficiency in the thalamus leads to metabolic changes in thalamocortical circuits and is associated with behavioral deficits. The recruited researcher will investigate the mechanisms underlying these changes: which molecular mechanisms drive them, how interactions between neurons and astrocytes contribute to these processes, and how these changes ultimately affect behavior. The project will combine studies in mouse models with large-scale approaches, biochemical analyses, and behavioral tests. Key responsibilities include: Proposing hypotheses, designing and conducting experiments, analyzing results; Maintaining thorough documentation of work (experiment descriptions, collecting raw data, and visualizing results); Presenting the project and findings at lab meetings and conferences; Visualising data, writing research reports and papers; Assisting less experienced lab members and supervising interns, within mutually agreed scope; Participating in shared laboratory duties. Profile of candidates/requirements: The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions specified in: Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 Law on higher education and science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571 with amendments) and the Statutes of the University of Warsaw; Article 119 of the Statutes of the University of Warsaw; Regulations on the allocation of resources for the implementation of tasks financed by the National Centre of Science for OPUS 28 grant; During the interview, the candidate will present their plans for future research activities and international research experience. A PhD degree in biology, medicine, or a related field is required. The candidate should have obtained their PhD no more than 12 years before 1 January 2027. The degree should be obtained in a country of the EU, EFTA, OECD or nostrified on the date of employment at the latest. Experience in animal experimentation and molecular biology, documented by publications in recognized journals, is required. Experience in neurobiology, behavioral research, omics analyses, or metabolism would be an advantage. A good command of English, both written and spoken, is required. Candidate evaluation criteria: the candidate’s research achievements, including publications in prestigious academic press/journals; research achievements, scholarships, awards and research experience gained in Poland or abroad, research workshops and training courses, participation in research projects; the candidate’s competences to carry out specific tasks i in the research project; soft skills (communication skills, ability to work in a team, resistance to stress).
