The current research program of the Department of Neurogenetics and Functional Genomics:
- functional studies of the underlying mechanisms of familial Alzheimer’s disease, with a particular focus on synaptic dysfunction, using a model based on reprogrammed human neurons and brain organoids;
- identification and comprehensive characterization (including bioinformatics) of mutations and genomic variants associated with the clinical phenotype of CUN neurodegenerative diseases, muscular, neurodevelopmental, neuropsychiatric, and related disorders;
- analysis of cellular and molecular processes (including mitochondrial function and mitophagy) underlying frontotemporal dementia (FTD) spectrum disorders caused by mutations in the PGRN , MAPT , and C9orf72 genes;
- development of new cellular models using iPSC lines derived from patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) caused by presenilin (PSEN1/2) mutations;
The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:
- in vitro functional studies of early pathological molecular hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease using an organoid model and reprogrammed neurons derived from patients with familial type presenilin gene mutations, as well as with sporadic type;
- multi-omic studies of the early stages of Alzheimer's disease;
- participation in the development of a platform providing access to brain organoid models from patients with neurodegenerative diseases, for the purpose of testing research hypotheses with translational potential.
Description of job position activities:
