Offer Description

DATE OF PUBLICATION SEPTEMBER 30, 2026

Recruitment is carried out in order to employ a scientific assistant (post-doc) to carry out scientific tasks in the project of the National Science Center SONATA BIS 13 "Microscale fluid transport by active surfaces", 2023/50/E/ST3/000465. The project leader is prof. Maciej Lisicki. The appointment will be at the level of assistant professor in the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, for the period of 24 months.

The project focuses on microscale fluid transport generated by active surfaces, such as ciliary carpets, cell and microorganism surfaces, and engineered biomimetic systems. Its aim is to understand how surface geometry, the spatiotemporal organisation of actuation, and unsteady effects determine flow structure, transport, and mixing. The research will combine theoretical and numerical modelling with the analysis of experimental data. The developed models will be applied to biophysical problems involving transport near active surfaces, and the hydrodynamics of swimming, feeding, and interactions of microorganisms .

The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018. (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2024, item 1571 with further amendments).

Eligibility criteria

Candidates will be assessed on their academic qualifications, particularly holding a recent PhD in a relevant discipline; their prior experience in mathematical modeling, simulation, data analysis and numerical methods; and their demonstrated interest in transport processes and fluid dynamics in microscale biological systems. Proficiency in English, sufficient for effective communication and report writing, will also be evaluated. Additional weight will be given to research achievements, evidence of productivity (publications), and overall fit with the project’s scope.

The candidate must meet the conditions set by the National Science Center for people employed in a post-doc position.
