Job summary

SWPS University, a non-public academic institution, invites applications for a post-doctoral position in the Institute of Social Sciences in Warsaw. Responsibilities cover qualitative research across the project, instrument design, interviews, data analysis, and dissemination of findings.

A PhD in social sciences and publications are required, with fluent English and Polish at C1 level. Starting November 2026, contract through 2029, with multiple research development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Holding a doctoral degree in the social sciences (preferred discipline: sociology).
• Research experience including demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative research.
• Publications in reputable international journals in the field of social sciences.
• Fluent English proficiency (minimum C1).
• Fluent Polish proficiency (minimum C1).
• Willingness to learn new analytical methods and techniques, with interest in youth studies / qualitative longitudinal research.

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive implementation of qualitative research activities within the project, including development of research instruments, recruitment of study participants, conducting interviews, data organization and coding, data analysis and archiving.
• Conduct literature reviews and analyze existing/secondary data.
• Coordinate fieldwork and ensure transparency of the research process, as well as completeness and quality of the research database.
• Contribute to preparation of publications and dissemination of research findings.
• Manage own research and administrative activities, with support from the Project Manager as needed.
• Provide substantive research support to the project’s scholarship recipient.
• Provide organizational and administrative support for the project.

Responsibilities:

Candidates are asked to familiarize themselves with the National Science Center’s regulations regarding the terms of employment for postdoctoral positions, in particular the requirement that candidates must meet the following criteria:

• have earned a Ph.D. in the year of employment on the project or within the 12-year period preceding January 1 of the year of employment on the project;
• have earned a Ph.D. at an institution other than the one where employment in this position is planned, or have completed at least 9 -month period of continuous and documented research internship, completed during doctoral school, doctoral studies, or after obtaining a doctoral degree, at an institution other than the one implementing the project and in a country other than the country where the doctoral degree was obtained;
• during the period of receiving this salary, the candidate will not receive any other salary from funds allocated as direct costs from research projects financed under NCN competitions, and during the period of receiving this salary, the candidate will not receive a salary from another employer under an employment contract, including an employer based outside the territory of Poland;
• during the period of receiving this remuneration, the recipient will not receive retirement benefits or equivalent benefits in Poland or abroad;
• a person who does not hold a doctoral degree may apply for the competition, but must meet this requirement at the time of signing the employment contract.

Formal criteria:

• academic achievements, including publications in reputable journals/publishers and active participation in national and international conferences: 40% of the final grade
• competencies relevant to the tasks in the research project: 40% of the final grade
• distinctions resulting from scientific work (scholarships, awards), experience gained outside the home institution (domestically or abroad), workshops, training, and participation in research projects: 20% of the final grade
