Job summary

Eurofins Scientific is an international life sciences company seeking an Operations Manager to oversee environmental laboratory operations, ensure high-quality analyses, timely ordering, and compliance with PCA / ISO 17025. You will lead analysts and technicians, optimize workload, and drive improvements with sales, project, and quality teams.

The role requires a strong background in operations management, budgeting, and Lean tools, plus excellent English and a proactive, safety-focused

Qualifications

  • Higher technical education and 5+ years managing operational teams.
  • Experience implementing or maintaining quality systems is a strong asset.
  • Experience working in a laboratory (environmental preferred) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily laboratory operations, analysis planning, and resource management.
  • Monitor efficiency and operational costs; drive productivity and profitability.
  • Achieve productivity, quality, and cost targets.
  • Oversee P&L, budgeting, and revenue growth.
  • Report progress, results, and challenges to leadership.
  • Ensure high-quality results and timely order completion per ISO 17025.
  • Collaborate with Quality Department on corrective actions and procedures.
  • Develop and update operational procedures and analytical methods.
  • Promote safety culture and health regulations compliance.
  • Manage recruitment, training, performance, and competency development.
  • Foster a safety, quality, ethics, and accountability culture.

Job Description

Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management of the operational activities of the environmental laboratory, ensuring high-quality analyses, timely execution of orders, and compliance with occupational safety regulations, the quality system, and accreditation requirements (including PCA / ISO 17025). The person in this role will lead a team of analysts and technicians, oversee laboratory processes, verify workload and resources, support the development of team competencies, and implement organizational improvements. The position requires active collaboration with sales, project, and quality departments.

Scope of Responsibilities
  • Supervision of daily laboratory operations, analysis planning, and resource management.
  • Monitoring the efficiency and operational costs of the laboratory; initiating actions to improve productivity and profitability.
  • Achieving productivity, quality, and cost-related targets.
  • Accountability for the laboratory’s financial performance (P&L), including budgeting, cost optimization, and driving sustainable revenue growth.
  • Reporting work progress, performance results, and operational challenges.
  • Ensuring a high level of communication and collaboration with internal and external clients.
  • Ensuring high-quality results and timely completion of orders in line with PCA / ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Cooperation with the Quality Department regarding corrective actions and maintaining compliance with procedures and standards.
  • Development and update of operational procedures and analytical methods in response to organizational needs or regulatory changes.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and fostering a safety culture within the team.
  • Managing the team: recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and competency development.
  • Promoting an organizational culture based on safety, quality, ethics, and accountability.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Higher technical education, preferably an engineering discipline. Minimum 5 years of experience in managing operational teams (e.g., production environment). Experience in implementing or maintaining quality systems is a strong asset. Experience working in a laboratory (preferably environmental) is an advantage.

  • Proficient use of computer tools (MS Office, including MS Excel).
  • Practical knowledge of Lean tools.

  • High responsibility, independence, and initiative.
  • Ability to support, motivate, and develop a team.
