Job summary

Codilime is seeking a Network Software Engineer to join a client project focused on developing and debugging BSPs and low-level software for high-performance networking devices. You will leverage AI-powered coding tools to rapidly generate and refactor test scripts, and collaborate with client architects and end-users to shape requirements.

The role demands strong C and Linux kernel programming, Python scripting, and hands-on hardware bring-up, plus experience with networking hardware interfaces

Qualifications

• Strong C and Linux kernel programming experience.
• Proficiency in Python scripting.
• Hands-on AI tooling for code generation is a plus.
• Experience with hardware bring-up and integration.
• Networking hardware experience in high-speed interfaces or ASIC/NPUs.
• Familiarity with I2C, PCIe, SPI, MDIO protocols.

Responsibilities

The project and the team

We develop software for modern networking platforms and operating systems for leading equipment manufacturers, as well as various other cloud-native, containerized services and solutions. In our test engineering teams, we bridge the gap between complex physical hardware (advanced routers, NPUs) and high-velocity, AI-driven development

We are looking for an engineer who combines solid networking hardware intuition with an AI-first mindset to rapidly build, test, and maintain a Python testing tool across diverse router platforms. You don't need to write low-level code from scratch—your super-power is leveraging LLMs to code fast, flash hardware, and validate your code efficiently.

What else you should know:

• We work using client-supplied hardware and tools

• The project is managed by the client, but the Codilime manager is also involved

• The client is from the US, so early evening meetings may be required

Your role

As a part of the project team, you will be responsible for:

• Develop and debug Board Support Package (BSP) and low-level software for high-performance networking devices

• Research and define how to implement client requirements and ideas best

• Engage directly with client architects and end-users through design calls and syncs to gather requirements, clarify edge cases, and shape the future of the testing tool,

• Use modern AI coding tools (LLMs, Copilot, Codex, etc.) as your primary workflow to rapidly generate, refactor, and expand test scripts

Do we have a match?

As a Network Software Engineer you must meet the following criteria:

• Strong proficiency in C and Linux system/kernel programming, plus Python scripting skills.

• Hands-on experience with agentic AI.

• Experience with general hardware integration and bring-up.

• Experience with networking hardware in at least one area, such as:

  • high-speed transceivers, network interfaces, and related industry standards.

  • integrating and configuring ASICs, NPUs, or specialized switching silicon using vendor SDKs.

Additionally:

• Background in register-level programming and communication protocols such as I2C, PCIe, SPI, and MDIO.

• Familiarity with network encryption protocols at the hardware/datapath level would be a plus.
