THERAPEUTIC APPLICATION PRACTICE is hiring a Mental Health Skill Building Counselor to provide direct support to individuals facing mental health challenges. The role involves delivering mental health services, assisting clients with life skills, and implementing individualized service plans. Qualifications include a QMHP-A or QMHP-C, a relevant bachelor's degree, and at least one year of experience in the field. This position is remote, offering flexible scheduling and opportunities for professional growth.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Skill Building Counselor to provide direct support services to adults and/or children experiencing mental health challenges. This role focuses on helping individuals develop essential life skills to achieve stability, independence, and overall wellness within the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Mental Health Skill Building Services (MHSS) in home and community-based settings
• Assist individuals with developing skills in:
  • Coping strategies
  • Emotional regulation
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Daily living activities (ADLs)
• Implement individualized service plans (ISPs) based on client needs
• Document services in compliance with DMAS and DBHDS requirements
• Maintain timely and accurate progress notes and service documentation
• Collaborate with clinical teams, case managers, and family members
• Support crisis prevention and intervention as needed
• Ensure all services are delivered in a person-centered and trauma-informed manner

Qualifications

• QMHP-A or QMHP-C required (or eligibility)
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Minimum of 1 year experience in mental health or human services preferred
• Knowledge of community-based behavioral health services
• Strong documentation and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening
• Must meet Virginia DBHDS compliance standards
