Manager, Software Engineering (Identity Engineering)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

Identity Engineering owns the systems responsible for onboarding all consumers and managing their authentication and verification journeys across Affirm’s product surfaces. We are looking for a highly motivated manager to help build this team. The manager will be instrumental in guiding the team through technical challenges, driving process improvements, and contributing to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing customer conversion. This engineering leader position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to own and deliver high-availability and low-latency systems on the critical paths for all of our products.

What you’ll do

  • Build teams: Lead a high-performance identity engineering team with a focus on building a culture of innovation, accountability, empathy and execution.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with peers across the organization on projects that turn opportunity into results.
  • Influence technical strategy: Collaborate with a broad range of engineering and analytics teams to deliver a long-term technical roadmap that meets stakeholder and growing business needs.
  • Raise the bar: Maintain a high technical standard while improving your team’s quality and development processes.
  • Grow others: Coach and mentor team members, provide timely feedback, and foster an environment where engineers can grow in their careers.

What we look for

  • Experience: 7+ years of software engineering with 2+ years of engineering leadership experience.
  • Technical skills: Experience architecting, building, launching and maintaining backend systems.
  • Technical leadership: Proven track record leading technical projects and mentoring engineers with cross-functional collaboration and influence across teams.
  • Team player: Community builder with strong collaboration skills and a desire to mentor others.
  • Communication: Excellent ability to articulate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Education: Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Pay Grade - P
Equity Grade - 13

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $225,000 - $275,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $200,000 - $250,000
