Job summary

RS Group is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to shape and advance our Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) built on Snowflake. You will lead the design, development, and operation of scalable data products and pipelines powering analytics and growth across the organisation.

You will mentor a team of Data Engineers, champion best practices, and collaborate with stakeholders to unlock data value. This hybrid role offers broad impact within the Group Data function.

Qualifications

• Experience leading data engineering teams in production.
• Proven ability to design scalable data pipelines and platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Snowflake, SQL, and ELT/ETL concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and delivery of scalable data pipelines and products on the Enterprise Data Platform.
• Define engineering standards and modern data engineering practices.
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions.
• Ensure reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness of data platforms and pipelines.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through design, coding, and reviews.
• Mentor and develop a team of Data Engineers; drive continuous improvement.
• Promote automation and AI-enabled engineering practices across the data ecosystem.
• Support productionizing innovative data use cases and migration initiatives across the org.

The Opportunity

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing RS’s Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), built on Snowflake. Combining technical expertise, people leadership, and delivery ownership, you will lead the design, development, and operation of scalable, reliable, and high-performing data products and pipelines that power data-driven decision-making across our global organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to translate data architecture strategy into impactful solutions, ensuring trusted, timely, and accessible data is available to support analytics, innovation, and business growth. Working at the heart of our Group Data function within IS&T, you will lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers, champion engineering best practices, and drive the delivery of high-quality data solutions aligned with enterprise priorities.

With visibility across the entire business, you will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, helping to unlock the value of data and accelerate RS’s transformation into a truly data-driven organisation.

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable data pipelines and products on the Enterprise Data Platform.
• Define and champion engineering standards, best practices, and modern data engineering methodologies.
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions.
• Ensure data platforms and pipelines are reliable, secure, performant, and cost-effective.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership through solution design, coding, and peer reviews.
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex data engineering and platform challenges.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Data Engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Drive automation, AI‑enabled engineering practices, and operational efficiencies across the data ecosystem.
• Support the transition of innovative data use cases into scalable, production‑ready solutions.
• Contribute to major data platform transformation and migration initiatives across the organisation.

WhatYou’llBring

• Experience in a Senior or Lead Data Engineering role, delivering scalable data solutions in production environments.
• Strong expertise in Snowflake or a similar cloud data platform.
• Hands‑on experience with modern data engineering tools such as dbt, Dagster, Airbyte, or equivalent.
• Solid understanding of ELT/ETL, data modelling, SQL, and pipeline orchestration.
• Experience implementing data quality, testing, monitoring, and performance optimisation practices.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support Data Engineers while providing hands‑on technical leadership.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• A collaborative, delivery‑focused mindset with a passion for high‑quality data solutions.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA, AI‑enabled engineering, or global enterprise‑scale data environments would be advantageous.
