Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Team Lead for the Android Core Product in a remote-friendly setup. You will own core Android features, code, reviews, and release ownership, while guiding a distributed team of engineers.

You’ll drive reliability, performance, and UX improvements in Speechify’s Android app alongside cross-functional partners. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in software engineering with leadership, deep Kotlin experience, and a track record of shipping audio/background tasks.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering with team leadership or owning a major surface while hands-on
• Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work
• Understanding of testing importance and approaches, including what can't be covered by tests
• Demonstrated ability to drive team improvements and introduce lasting changes
• Comfort with challenging others to adopt new working patterns while managing friction
• Ability to reason about system-wide changes and their impact on the team
• Track record of building useful, widely adopted features by the team
• Ability to describe how the team uses AI agents, not just individual work
• Product design intuition, user empathy, and pushing UI/UX beyond the spec

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design through release
• Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback
• Unblock the team when progress stalls
• Promote consistency by consolidating multiple implementations
• Keep shared components well-tested and maintainable
• Lead changes in team processes when needed
• Reduce manual steps to deliver correct releases
• Address recurring problems by improving underlying setups
• Advance automated checks to shorten verification
• Plan sprints to focus on decisions still needed
• Assess review needs and ensure clear ownership
• Participate in cross-team discussions to align constraints
• Handle critical issues and support nightly QA builds
• Mentor junior engineers and provide learning opportunities
