Job summary

EPAM Systems, a global AI transformation leader, seeks a Lead AI Data Software Engineer to join its Data Competency Center. You will lead engineering teams delivering diverse AI-driven data solutions across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience with data engineering tech.

We are looking for a Lead AI Data Software Engineer to join our Data Competency Center and make our team even stronger. The projects and technologies we are working with are very diverse and cover all technologies currently present on the market and represented by open-source communities. Work as a Forward Deployed Engineer, connecting the world of Technology, Business and AI by leading engineering teams to success. We are providing our services to Clients in different domains: Financial, Health Care, Insurance and many others, so you will have a chance to develop yourself in any direction you want.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement innovative analytical solutions using Cloud Native, Data, and NoSQL-related technologies
• Develop and implement Cloud/On-Premise/Hybrid solutions using best-in-the-class data frameworks
• Drive next waves of AI adoption
• Work with product and engineering teams to understand requirements and evaluate new features and architecture to help drive decisions
• Build collaborative partnerships with architects, technical leads and key individuals within other functional groups
• Perform detailed analysis of business problems and technical environments and use this in designing quality technical solution
• Actively participate in code review and test solutions to ensure they meet best practice specifications
• Build and foster a high-performance engineering culture, mentor team members and provide the team with the tools and motivation
• Write project documentation

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software development with Data Software Engineering technologies
• Advanced knowledge of Python
• Vast experience with Spark and Databricks
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform
• Experience with and confidence in using AI development tools eg. Claude Code, Github Copilot, Cursor
• Experience in managing small and mid-size teams using Agile methodology
• Ability to explain technological solutions in a simple, business-oriented way
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, related technical field or equivalent practical experience
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English (B2+)

Nice to have

• Experience in building Agentic AI solutions
• Preferred experience with message queues, specifically Kafka, and working with large data transfer applications/middleware
• Production experience in search technologies such as Solr, OpenSearch, or Lucene is highly advantageous
• Knowledge of Scala or Java
