Your career opportunity The GCIO CCO team is responsible for enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite by embedding effective risk and control practices. It provides operational risk expertise, technical insights, and governance support across all lines of defense, maintaining strong relationships with regulators and external partners. The Senior Control Manager plays a pivotal role within HSBC’s GCIO Chief Control Office, supporting the Technology Infrastructure domain of the Chief Technology Office. This role ensures robust risk and control management across global operations, aligning with HSBC’s strategic objectives and regulatory expectations. As a senior leader in the GCIO CCO function, you will oversee the risk and control portfolio for CTO Infrastructure. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to senior management, drive continuous improvement in control environments, and influence the development of future-fit risk frameworks. The role demands strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and leadership across a globally dispersed team.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead risk and control oversight for CTO Infrastructure, ensuring alignment with HSBC’s risk appetite.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on operational risk, audits, and control assessments.
  • Promote data-driven decision-making and challenge inefficient or excessive controls.
  • Design and implement practical, commercially viable control processes.
  • Monitor and analyze control performance to drive improvements.
  • Support GCIO CCO operating model, service catalogue, and toolkits.
  • Represent the function in governance forums and committees.
  • Embed a proactive risk culture and ensure lessons learned are shared across GCIO.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Technology Infrastructure controls (e.g., OS, Middleware, Database).
  • Proven expertise in operational, non-financial, or cyber risk management.
  • Strong stakeholder management across geographies and functions.
  • Experience in presenting complex risk topics to senior audiences.
  • Ability to lead and influence in a matrixed, global environment.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Track record of process improvement and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Experience in regulated industries, preferably financial services.
  • Nice to have
    • Certifications such as CISA, CISSP, CRISC, or CCSP.
    • Experience with regulatory bodies and external audits.
    • Exposure to data, IT operations, and audit functions.
    • Remote team leadership experience.
    • Experience working across cultures and in complex matrix environments.
