Job summary

AFRY is seeking a Geotechnical/Civil Engineer to join the Mining infrastructure team in Finland, collaborating with a diverse, international group. You will contribute to feasibility through detailed design, working on dams, tailings facilities, water management structures, and earthworks across projects in Nordics and Central Europe.

The role requires 5–10 years of relevant experience, strong software skills (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Geocalc, Plaxis, RocScience, Geostudio), and good English.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering from a reputed university.
• 5–10 years of experience in infrastructural design with a focus on civil structures or mining infrastructure.
• Experience in designing dams, tailings storage facilities, water management structures, waterways, waste storage facilities, stability and settlement calculations, dam inspections and monitoring, closure design, and geotextiles.
• Good written and verbal English language (CEFR minimum level B1).
• Good skills in AutoCad Civil 3D, Geocalc / Plaxis / RocScience / Geostudio.
• Good knowledge of working in all applications of MS Office.

About The Team In Finland

In Finland we currently have 65 Geotechnical engineers working within mining infrastructure and geotechnical engineering, such as dam and tailings structures. We work with a wide scope of assignments ranging from feasibility studies to detailed design. In general we work in 2-5 person teams assigned to different projects, our engineers have a typical workload of 2-4 ongoing projects.

• Mining infrastructure design
• Tailings storage facilities, dams and water management structures
• Waste rock and stockpile area design
• Earthworks, foundations and site infrastructure
• Design documentation, drawings and technical reporting
• Geotechnical calculations
• Layout and 3D model production
• Collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams

Qualifications

We expect that you have

• A Qualified Degree in either Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering from a reputed College/University
• 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in infrastructural design with a focus on civil structures or mining infrastructure.
• Experience in designing dams, tailings storage facilities, water management structures, waterways, waste storage facilities, stability and settlement calculations, dam inspections and monitoring, closure design, and geotextiles. Both in the pre-design and construction design phases (feasibility study -> detailed engineering)
• Good written and verbal English language (CEFR minimum level B1)
• Good skills in Autocad Civil 3D, Geocalc / Plaxis / RocScience / Geostudio
• A good knowledge of working in all applications of MS Office
