Enterprise Technology/Compliance IT Department brings together all areas of financial crime risk management at HSBC including anti-money laundering: transaction monitoring, screening, risk assessment etc. and is dedicated to implement the most effective global standards to combat financial crime.

The user base is global covering differing needs of business customers from interactive management information, self-service platforms, improving efficiency by creating and distributing documents automatically, and providing technical and functional expertise on the use of the platform. The Surveillance IT team is responsible for the software and hardware underpinning the firms’ primary Trade, eComms, Voice and Unauthorised Trading applications. Our clients are internal users from the Regulatory Compliance function, who are responsible for the definition of surveillance techniques and models, the monitoring of alerts, and the management of any subsequent investigations and reports into suspicious activity.

The IT Business Analyst role will sit within the Surveillance programme and its primary responsibility is analysis of business needs and other issues relating to the IT surveillance platform.

What you’ll do

  • Complete tasks assigned by the Project/Programme managers to agreed timescales, scope and quality measures.
  • Produce detailed functional specifications for a development team / vendor to meet the required business outcome.
  • Create specification and documentation of surveillance analytics to a standard which would bear scrutiny by an internal audit or external regulators.
  • Identify, analyse and validate multiple data elements including Trade, Reference and Market data sources.
  • Participate in testing cycles, work with the System Testers to ensure adequate test scripts have been built and run, assist users with acceptance testing.
  • Analyse and create documentation of business requirements.

What you need to have to succeed in this role

  • Extensive data analysis, data mapping, functional and technical business analysis experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of a structured approach to analysis, including the preparation of all related artefacts (e.g. functional system specifications, data feed specifications, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working with resources in geographically dispersed teams, appreciating and respecting local cultures.
  • Accountability - takes ownership of tasks assigned to ultimate resolution with minimal supervision.
  • A willingness to constructively challenge accepted wisdom ensure focus on the problem to be addressed rather than “the solution we want”.
  • Advanced analysis, requirements elicitation, functional design and problem-solving skills - structured, formal approach to analysis tasks, competency in Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Ability to articulate clearly the project lifecycle and application development process including best practice methodologies and an uncompromising eye for quality.
  • Ability to convey requirements to developers in a way that’s clearly understood by them and practical experience in functional analysis and design, utilising different methodologies i.e. Use Cases, Business Process Modelling within a Agile Project environment.
  • Excellent Global Markets / Investment Banking knowledge across a number of products including FX; FXO; Energy; Metals; Equities; Equity Derivatives; Fixed Income; Futures; Swaps.
