Role

The Ads team at Whatnot is a growing engineering group dedicated to building systems and features to help sellers expand their business. As a software engineer on this team, key qualities include making sound product decisions, navigating new domains seamlessly, taking extreme ownership, and shipping high-quality products swiftly. We prioritize high-impact features and trust our team members with significant responsibilities and freedoms. Your ability to prioritize customer needs, make good trade-offs, and deliver impactful solutions is essential.

In this role, you will:

1. Build highly scalable Ads systems that manage all aspects of online advertising and help sellers differentiate themselves on Whatnot.
2. Focus on web-based ad flows and dashboards, with occasional backend work.
3. Maintain web applications, develop new features, and potentially work on infrastructure.
4. Understand buyer and seller experiences to help them scale their businesses through ads and monetization products.

Team members in this role should be within commuting distance of our Kraków, Poland hub.

You

We believe that thriving at Whatnot requires embodying a low ego, growth mindset, and high-impact drive. As our next Fullstack Engineer, you should have 5+ years of experience, particularly expertise in frontend web development with React, using GraphQL for API development, and modern frontend applications. Exposure to Next.js is a plus. Additionally, you should:

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or have equivalent work experience.
• Have a strong understanding of user-facing frontend and UX.
• Be open to backend work when needed.
• Possess excellent product instincts, focusing on user needs over purely technical solutions.
• Have a proven track record of delivering features end-to-end rapidly without sacrificing quality.
• Be a project owner with strong ownership instincts, capable of managing projects from inception to deployment and beyond.
• Quickly adapt to new technologies.
• Experience with complex web tooling like dashboards is a plus.
• Startup experience at high-growth companies and familiarity with ads systems, infrastructure, and international commerce are desirable but not mandatory.
