Job summary

Rockwell Automation in Katowice, Poland is seeking a Firmware Test Engineer to develop functional and system-level tests for embedded firmware products such as motor drives and power converters. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics, automation, computer engineering, software engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience testing embedded firmware, software-controlled products, or electronic systems at functional or system level.
• 1+ years of experience developing test scripts in Python or another commonly used programming language.
• Experience reading and applying product requirements, design documentation, test plans, and test procedures.
• Practical knowledge of electrical or electronic measurement equipment and safe laboratory working practices.

• Collaborate with firmware and software developers to identify test opportunities, investigate issues, and improve test applications, methods, and coverage.
• Provide daily technical guidance and training to test technicians and contribute to process improvements within the test organization.

Job Description

As a Firmware Test Engineer, you will develop functional and system-level tests for embedded firmware products, including motor drives and power converters. You will work with firmware and software developers, test engineers, and test technicians to improve test coverage, automate test activities, investigate product issues, and help deliver reliable products.

You will report to the Engineering Test Manager and have a hybrid schedule working in Katowice, Poland.

Your Responsibilities:

• Develop functional and system-level test plans and test cases for embedded firmware products using Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS) and High-Level Design Documents (HLDD).


• Design, build, and maintain test setups and automated test stations, including software test scripts developed in Python or another common programming language.


• Create and improve test procedures, test scripts, and implementation documentation following the Common Development Process, while maintaining clear engineering records of test conditions, analysis, results, and design decisions.


• Collaborate with firmware and software developers to identify test opportunities, investigate product issues, and improve test applications, methods, and coverage.


• Provide daily technical guidance and training to test technicians assigned to projects, and contribute to common processes and continuous improvement within the test organization.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics, automation, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.


• Hands-on experience testing embedded firmware, software-controlled products, or electronic systems at functional or system level.


• 1+ years of experience developing test scripts in Python or another commonly used programming language.


• Experience reading and applying product requirements, design documentation, test plans, and test procedures.


• Practical knowledge of electrical or electronic measurement equipment and safe laboratory working practices.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

• Experience testing variable frequency drives, power converters, industrial automation products and PLCs or similar electronics equipment.


• Experience developing automated test systems, test fixtures, data acquisition solutions, or hardware-in-the-loop test environments.


• Knowledge of firmware and product development lifecycles, defect investigation, root-cause analysis, and requirements-based testing.
