Job Description
The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant operations. This role ensures operational efficiency, safety, quality, and continuous improvement in plant performance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in food processing and proven leadership skills in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the processing plant, ensuring efficient production and compliance with company standards.
- Manage and optimize processing machines, including calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance product quality.
- Lead and mentor plant personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, OSHA, and other relevant food safety and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to establish preventive maintenance programs and minimize equipment failures.
- Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, cost reduction strategies, and operational excellence. Monitor KPIs and implement corrective actions.
- Work with supply chain, quality assurance, and logistics teams to streamline production scheduling and inventory management.
- Oversee hiring, training, and development of plant staff to maintain a skilled and motivated workforce.
- Manage plant budgets, control costs, and oversee capital expenditure projects. Promote workplace safety programs.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Food Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years in plant operations management, preferably in food processing.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations (SQF, HACCP, GMPs, etc.) and best practices.
- Proven success in operational improvements and team management.
- Financial acumen with experience managing plant budgets.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems is advantageous.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing setting with exposure to temperature changes, humidity, and moving machinery.
- Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in refrigerated areas as needed.
