Formula5 is seeking a remote, contract-based Data Solution Engineer with strong Microsoft Fabric delivery skills. You will design data pipelines, semantic models, DAX and BI solutions for a US client, overlapping US business hours with CET. Experience in healthcare data is preferred.
You will contribute to an AI-assisted, agentic delivery workflow, ensuring quality and clear communication with stakeholders. 3+ years in data engineering and BI is expected.
At Formula5, we’re a Microsoft Partner with a focus on Data and AI, Security, Identity, and Cloud Automation. We help organizations build secure, scalable, and modern solutions that combine technology, trust, and real business outcomes. We believe in people-first collaboration, clear communication, and excellence in everything we do.
Formula5 delivers secure data and AI solutions, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and automation for clients in regulated industries such as healthcare and life sciences, financial services and energy. We are a Microsoft partner built on value, quality and best practices.
We are looking for a full-stack Data Solution Engineer (Microsoft Fabric) who is just as comfortable building data pipelines as building the semantic models and reports that sit on top of them. You will work end to end on a client engagement: ingesting and transforming data in Microsoft Fabric, designing semantic models and DAX, and delivering Power BI reports and Fabric Apps (Rayfin) to business users.
AI is part of how we work at Formula5, and this engagement runs on agentic development workflows: AI tools and agents help us build, test, review and document, while engineers stay responsible for every output. In the interview we will ask how you use AI today and how you validate AI-generated code, notebooks and DAX.
You will work with a US-based client, so part of your working day will overlap with US business hours. This usually means some meetings in the afternoon or early evening (CET), while the rest of your day stays flexible.
Technology: Microsoft Fabric (must have): data engineering, semantic models and DAX, plus Power BI or Fabric Apps (Rayfin)
Experience: 3+ years (mid/senior level) on tech side / focused studies or 2+ years’ experience working in healthcare context
Location: Remote
Working hours: Flexible, with overlap with US business hours
Employment type: Contract (B2B)
Technology Requirements
Primary (or on par) tech stack: MS Fabric (must have) - Hands‑on production experience: Lakehouse and Warehouse, Data Factory pipelines, notebooks (PySpark and SQL), medallion architecture, performance tuning. Fabric will be your first project primary delivery environment, but we also require an additional tech stack to fit the Formula5 baseline team skillset.
Secondary tech stack: Databricks or Snowflake (must have) - Hands‑on project experience with at least one. Both is a strong plus. Formula5 delivers solutions on MS Fabric, Databricks and Snowflake platforms.
Semantic models and DAX (must have) - You design star‑schema semantic models, write and optimise DAX, and understand storage modes, including Direct Lake. This role is strongly focused on fitting business processes and measures into semantic models. Pure data engineering we push more towards semi‑automated AI delivery.
Power BI reports and/or Fabric Apps (Rayfin) (required, at least one) - Hands‑on experience with at least one, and openness to deliver both. Experience with both is a strong plus. We are gradually switching to the Fabric Apps BI experience.
AI and agentic workflows delivery (must have) - You use AI tools in your engineering work every day, or are clearly willing to from day one.
Healthcare or clinical research data (preferred) - Experience with healthcare or clinical research data, such as clinical trials, patient or EHR data, or claims. A strong advantage.
Screening note: candidates without hands‑on Microsoft Fabric data engineering, without semantic modelling and DAX, without experience in either Power BI reporting or Fabric Apps (Rayfin) and hands‑on experience with delivery using Claude Code/Codex/Cursor do not meet the requirements.
3+ years in data engineering and BI, including hands‑on delivery on Microsoft Fabric.
Your experience working in, with healthcare projects or focused university education in that area.
Strong SQL, Python (PySpark) and DAX skills.
Solid data modelling: star schemas, medallion architecture, ETL and ELT.
Hands‑on experience with Power BI report development or Fabric Apps (Rayfin), and willingness to work with both.
Confidence with Git, CI/CD and an AI‑assisted, agentic way of delivering.
Clear communication in English and confidence in client‑facing work.
