Job summary

Kingfisher plc is seeking a Principal Data Engineer in Kraków to lead the design and evolution of our data platforms. You will influence engineering standards across multiple squads and drive enterprise-scale data solutions that deliver measurable business value.

You will mentor engineers, champion modern data practices, and collaborate with Architecture, Product, and Technology teams to craft long-term roadmaps. Excellent English skills are required for global collaboration.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering large-scale data platforms and production-grade data pipelines.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Hands-on experience with Spark, PySpark, or Scala.
• Experience using DBT for data modelling and transformation.
• Cloud knowledge across GCP, Azure, and AWS.
• Experience with Databricks, BigQuery, and Azure Data Factory.
• Strong understanding of DevOps and DataOps practices (CI/CD, Git, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with data quality tools and testing frameworks (Great Expectations).
• Deep understanding of batch, streaming, and event-driven data architectures.
• Ability to lead through uncertainty and influence strategic direction.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Define and drive data platform strategy aligned with Group Technology objectives.
• Lead architecture decisions and establish engineering standards for data pipelines, storage, and processing.
• Partner with Architecture and Product to shape long-term roadmaps.
• Design and deliver robust, production-ready data platforms and pipelines.
• Champion modern data engineering practices (CI/CD, observability, DevOps, platform automation).
• Drive data quality, governance, and security standards.
• Provide technical leadership across multiple squads and stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and help develop high-performing teams and communities.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies and evaluate new tools for value.
• Drive continuous improvement balancing quality, speed, cost, and risk.
