Job summary

LyondellBasell’s Digital Technologies (DT) organization is hiring a Data Integration Engineer I to deliver scalable data ingestion, integration, and engineering solutions. You will collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and domain experts to enable data-driven products and insights.

The role emphasizes CI/CD practices, cloud data platforms, and building robust data pipelines in a hybrid work setting with in-person collaboration days.

Qualifications

  • BS (MS strongly preferred, PhD desired) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 0+ years professional hands on data engineering or software development experience with a BS, MS or PhD.
  • Exposure to ETL/ELT tools, techniques, design and development.
  • Exposure to Cloud Data Warehouses, Databases and Data Lakehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, and/or BigQuery, etc.
  • Exposure to event driven architectures and data streaming pub/sub technologies such as Kafka, Azure Event Hub, Spark Streaming and Kinesis.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in SQL, Python, and/or Scala.

Responsibilities

  • Place emphasis on delivering value through the development and deployment of data ingestion, integration, and engineering solutions.
  • Perform development and maintenance of data ingestion and integration services on the data platform to support analytics at scale.
  • Work collaboratively with software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and business SMEs in providing data ingestion and integrations capabilities.
  • Ensure architecture, security, exception handling, testing, and code development standards are adhered to.

A Day in the Life
  • Place emphasis on delivering value through the development and deployment of data ingestion, integration, and engineering solutions which leverage excellent software engineering practices
  • Perform development and maintenance of data ingestion and integration services on the data platform to support analytics at scale and the delivery of data products and solutions
  • Work collaboratively with software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and business SMEs (Process Engineers, Automation Engineers, Reliability Engineers, other business domain experts) in providing data ingestion and integrations capabilities which are critical to delivering data driven solutions
  • Work collaboratively across DT to ensure proper architecture, security, exception handling, testing, and code development standards are adhered to
  • Implement internal process improvements for greater scalability, efficiency, reliability and data quality
  • Develop technical platforms, frameworks, and applications, to provide data, business intelligence, and information
  • Network internally and externally to build relationships that foster technology transfer and collaboration
You Bring This Value
  • BS (MS strongly preferred, and PhD desired) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
  • 0+ years professional hands on data engineering or software development experience with a BS, MS or PhD
  • Exposure to ETL/ELT tools, techniques, design and development
  • Exposure to Cloud Data Warehouses, Databases and Data Lakehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, and/or BigQuery, etc.
  • Exposure to event driven architectures and data streaming pub/sub technologies such as Kafka, Azure Event Hub, Spark Streaming and Kinesis
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team
  • High level of enthusiasm and a love of data, software development, and data engineering
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, including strong data, technical, and mathematical knowledge and skills
  • Experience working with one or more languages commonly used for data operations including SQL, Python, and/or Scala
  • Technical background with understanding of database methodologies and various relational and NoSQL database technologies
  • Knowledge of DevOps and Agile concepts & development principles including continuous integration & continuous delivery (CI/CD)
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience with a BS degree
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in other languages, such as C#, C++, Java, or Julia
  • Experience with VS Code
  • Experience with Linux, Unix, Git, GitHub Actions, and software development testing frameworks
  • Experience working with data tools in the public cloud – Azure preferred
  • Experience working with multiple Big Data file formats (Parquet, Avro, Delta Lake, Iceberg)
  • Experience with Data lake storage technologies including ADLS Gen. 2, AWS S3 and GCS
  • Experience designing, building and deploying solutions with Azure Data Factory or Databricks
  • Experience of Reporting and Analytics tools such as Power BI and Tableau
  • Experience in continuous integration tools (Git, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, TFS, Maven, Nexus)
  • Data Engineering and/or Solution Architect certification – Azure preferred
