Your impact
We are looking for Data Engineers to join our Digital & Data Hub and support delivery of modern, cloud-based data solutions for Jacobs and PA Consulting engagements. You will work across Azure data platforms, with Microsoft Fabric and Databricks at the core, helping clients turn complex data into reliable, scalable and actionable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and optimise scalable data platforms and pipelines using Azure services, Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.
- Develop robust batch and near-real-time data ingestion and transformation processes across Azure Data Lake and related services.
- Use Databricks, Delta Lake and Apache Spark to process, transform and manage large and complex datasets.
- Contribute to Microsoft Fabric solutions, including Lakehouse, Data Factory/Data Pipelines, notebooks and semantic data layers where appropriate.
- Apply strong engineering practices for data quality, testing, monitoring, performance, security and cost optimisation.
- Work closely with client stakeholders to understand requirements, explain technical options and translate business needs into deliverable data solutions.
- Contribute to data architecture, modelling, integration and technical design decisions.
- Collaborate with solution architects, analysts, software engineers, AI specialists and delivery leads in consulting project teams.
- Prepare clear technical documentation and support knowledge transfer to clients and project teams.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of commercial experience in data engineering or a related role.
- Hands-on commercial experience with Databricks – this is a mandatory requirement.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure data services, including Azure Data Lake and cloud-based data integration.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric and its data engineering capabilities.
- Strong SQL skills and practical experience with Python, PySpark or equivalent.
- Understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT patterns, data quality and data governance.
- Ability to work directly with clients in a consulting environment and communicate technical topics clearly in English.
- Ability to work effectively in distributed, multicultural project teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Azure Functions or other Azure data services.
- Experience with Power BI or semantic modelling.
- Experience delivering data warehouses, lakehouses, chatbots or AI-enabled data solutions.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, Git, Docker or infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience with regulated, public-sector, utilities, financial-services or other complex client environments.
- Relevant Microsoft or Databricks certifications.
