Job description

Job description

We are looking for a dynamic, academically-driven teacher to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Akademeia High School, which is already a well-established international school in its tenth year of operation. You would be a part of a caring and inclusive community where both our students and staff have agency and thrive while sharing a passion for learning.

About Akademeia:

Akademeia High School is an academically-selective school in Warsaw, offering IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Akademeia Assessed Courses. The majority of our students are preparing to study at Oxbridge, Russell group, and Ivy League universities as well as acclaimed architecture, art and music schools. With a rigorous admissions process and A Level classes taught in the form of undergraduate seminars, the school pursues a pre-university university model. The school offers a robust scholarship programme, with 10% of places allocated to merit-based, partial and full scholarships. Together with Akademeia High School Foundation, the school also supports several educational outreach and community engagement initiatives.

Akademeia High School has achieved three prestigious international accreditations HMC (The Head's Conference), AoBSO (Association of British Schools Overseas) and COBIS (Council of British International Schools), setting a new benchmark for excellence in global education.

These accreditations recognise the strength of our academic programme and the outstanding outcomes our students achieve — including entry to the world’s top universities. They reflect the visionary leadership of the Headmaster and Senior Leadership Team, and the dedication of our highly qualified teaching staff.

About the job

You will have a chance to work with some of the most intellectually curious young minds and have the chance to inspire them through stimulating and creative lessons in small classes of up to 12 students. You will collaborate closely at both the subject and departmental levels, working on curriculum planning, specification delivery, and broader initiatives. Your role will involve teaching Chemistry to students aged 14-18, across IGCSE and A Level courses.

As a member of our Natural Sciences Department, you will collaborate with experienced professionals who value teamwork and the interdisciplinary nature of science. Our commitment to student-cantered approach fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which prepares students for academic success and lifelong learning. We offer fully equipped laboratories supported by two dedicated lab managers who assist teachers in delivering practical lessons. The department consistently achieves outstanding results in external exams at both IGCSE and A Level. In recent years, our students have been awarded Pearson Learner Awards in categories such as the Highest Mark in the world in the International A Level in Chemistry and the highest mark in Poland in the international GCSE in Chemistry.

Our students also participate in prestigious competitions like the British Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Olympiads, frequently earning gold medals and merit awards. Most of our STEM students go on to pursue courses in fields such as Medicine, Medical Sciences, Neurobiology, Psychology, Biochemistry, Natural Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Many receive scholarships to continue their studies at top universities worldwide. Beyond academic successes, and professional collaboration, our department nurtures a strong sense of community, and we occasionally spend time together outside of school to strengthen team spirit.

The full-time teaching commitment is 20 hours of instruction per week with generous time allowances built into the timetable to facilitate effective preparation, marking, and report writing. Teachers are expected to either be involved in pastoral care (tutoring of a small group) or supporting student clubs and co-curricular activities. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend.

Staff benefits include 12 weeks paid holiday, access to private health insurance and mental health package, subsidised lunches, professional development scheme and further qualification support. Extracurricular activities, such as afternoon clubs, supervision of Personal Development Projects and trips are paid additionally in line with the school’s extracurricular points system.
