AgileEngine is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain PHP-based systems powering distributed services. You will apply strong OOP and system design skills to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing APIs.

The role involves collaborating with product managers, architects, QA, and support teams, while following best practices in security and documentation. Hybrid work with flexible hours is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 2 years backend PHP experience in production environments.
• Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, algorithms, and data structures.
• Experience building backend systems and service integrations.
• Secure API design with authentication/authorization concepts.
• Experience with relational databases and backend architecture basics.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and containerized environments.
• Strong ownership, communication, and documentation skills.
• Overlaps with Western European Time; weekend migration support may be needed occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend systems, APIs, and integrations.
• Contribute to distributed services and microservices for scalability and reliability.
• Apply OOP principles and architectural patterns for extensibility.
• Implement and maintain secure authentication/authorization (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC).
• Optimize performance with data structures, caching, and profiling.
• Debug, profile, and tune across environments and services.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA, and support teams.
• Participate in testing strategies and code reviews; maintain docs.
• Adhere to code quality, security, and scalability standards.
