Job summary

Xebia, a global AI-first engineering partner, is seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Java and Kotlin) to develop scalable backend services for a specialized automotive marketplace.

You will design microservices and REST APIs, collaborate with Product, Data and UX teams, and uphold high standards of quality and testing. Occasional visits to the Warsaw office are expected within EU region.

You will be:

• developing and enhancing scalable backend services for a specialized automotive marketplace,
• designing and developing microservices and REST APIs supporting key customer journeys,
• designing new modules and improving existing platform components,
• collaborating closely with Product Managers, Data Analysts, and UX Designers to translate business needs into technical solutions,
• ensuring high standards of code quality, testing, maintainability, and engineering best practices,
• using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or OpenCode to support software delivery.

Your profile:

• strong commercial experience with Java and Kotlin,
• hands-on experience with Spring Boot,
• practical experience designing and developing microservices architectures,
• experience building and maintaining backend services and REST APIs,
• strong focus on code quality, testing, and engineering best practices,
• ability to design new modules and improve existing systems,
• practical experience using AI-powered assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve productivity, quality, or decision-making in software delivery.
• ability to work effectively with Product, Data, and UX teams,
• Polish and English at B2 level,
• openness to occasional visits to the Warsaw office (1-2 days per quarter).

Work from the European Union region and a work permit are required.

Nice to have:

• experience with MongoDB and Spring Data MongoDB,
• experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP),
• basic knowledge of frontend or mobile development, such as Web, iOS, or Android.
• experience applying GenAI in a more structured way within the SDLC, including defined workflows, prompt patterns, or tool integrations embedded into daily work,
• interest in and familiarity with emerging AI-driven practices (e.g. agent-based workflows, automation patterns, AI-augmented development), with a willingness to explore and experiment beyond standard approaches.
