Job summary

Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw seeks a dedicated researcher to advance projects on brain tumors, using cellular, molecular, and in vivo approaches. Qualifications

  • Master's degree in medicine, biology, biotechnology, or related field.
  • At least five years of laboratory experience, including cell culture and small-animal surgery.
  • Experience with rodent in vivo models and permits for animal work.
  • Hands-on experience with PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence/confocal microscopy.
  • Authorship or co-authorship of cancer research or neuroscience publications.
  • Ability to secure research funding and draft grant applications.
  • Strong organizational and teamwork skills; independence in planning research.

Responsibilities

  • Design, organize, and conduct experiments using cell and tissue cultures, animal models, and patient-derived material.
  • Perform molecular, biochemical, histological, and microscopy analyses and implement required methods.
  • Analyze and present results; prepare reports, manuscripts, and conference presentations.
  • Contribute to grant applications and delivery of funded projects.
  • Participate in seminars, training, and collaboration within the department and institute.

Offer Description

The current research program of the Department of Neurooncology:

The department investigates the molecular mechanisms of primary and metastatic brain tumors, witha focus on non-coding RNAs, the tumor microenvironment, and experimental therapies. Its current research includes extracellular vesicles, viral interactions with brain tumors, and immunotherapeutic approaches to preventing glioblastoma recurrence.

The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing and developing projects involving circular RNAs in breast cancer brain metastasis, CMV-associated mechanisms of tumor neovascularization, and oncolytic HSV-based immunotherapy for glioblastoma. The work may also involve multi-omics approaches to biomarker discovery and the development of 3D and organoid models of brain tumors.

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

  • “Factory of extracellular vesicles for personalized anti-cancer recurrence vaccine” – ABM TRANSMED I

Description of job position activities:

  • design, organize, and conduct experiments using cell and tissue cultures, animal models, and patient-derived material;
  • perform molecular, biochemical, histological, and microscopy analyses, and help introduce methods needed for the projects;
  • analyze and present results, prepare research reports, manuscripts, and conference presentations;
  • contribute to grant applications and the delivery of funded projects in accordance with their requirements;
  • participate in the scientific activities of the department and Institute, including seminars, training, and collaboration with other researchers.

Skills/Qualifications

Requirements:

  • a master’s degree or equivalent in medicine, biology, biotechnology, or a related field;
  • at least five years of laboratory experience, including cell culture, as well as experience in small‑animal surgery;
  • experience with rodent in vivo models and the permits or certifications required to conduct the proposed animal work;
  • hands-on experience with relevant techniques such as PCR or qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence or confocal microscopy;
  • authorship or co-authorship of scientific publications in cancer research or neuroscience;
  • documented experience in preparing research funding applications;
  • ability to formulate hypotheses and independently plan and conduct research;
  • strong organizational and teamwork skills, creativity;
  • ability to indicate the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences,as the first place of employment;
  • fluent in spoken and written English.
Specific Requirements

Additional requirements (desirable):

  • experience with animal models of cancer and knowledge of rodent brain anatomy;
  • experience with 3D or ex vivo organoid cultures;
  • skills in statistical analysis or bioinformatics;
  • a record of successful research funding and presentations at scientific conferences.
